02 · Research Lab

Small systems where energy, water, biology and data meet.

The Research Lab runs living micro-systems as experiments: standardised variables, logged evidence, protocols and short papers. Each system below carries a status, so a working prototype is never confused with a plan.

Experimental · operating prototypeHistorical · dated demonstrationProposed · research direction
Experimental

F2 / F3 micro-fountains

Solar-buffered water loops with whisper-quiet micro-pumps — the testbed where BioSensei SysOps was born.

Experimental

S1 / B1 aquariums & SAM1

Low-upkeep aquariums, logged alongside the other loops with the ABED evidence format.

Experimental

CSSGH smart greenhouse

A closet-size, low-cost autonomous greenhouse with smart scheduling — framed around feeding crews far from Earth.

Experimental

APN aquaponics · Shrooly

Fish-and-greens loops and compact mushroom culture: regenerative micro-food at home scale.

  1. Advancing sustainable living at home and in space Historical
  2. CSSGH low-cost autonomous greenhouse prototype; sub-perpetual autonomy milestone report
  3. Milestone III — toward autonomous life support for space
  4. BioSphere Syllabus published — fountains as life-support pedagogy
  5. Introducing BioSensei — an operating stack for living systems
  6. Resilience research: Recognition-to-Action Latency (how fast a living system's problem is noticed and acted on) as a shared metric across loops Proposed

Historical items describe what was demonstrated when published, not guaranteed current capabilities. Full records: Ajinomatrix BioSphere journal.

03 · Haverim Living Laboratory

A home that became a laboratory.

Haverim, in Rebecq, Belgium, is where BioSphere's ideas meet daily life. Over five years of tinkering — pumps, plants, panels and a lot of moss — the house turned into a working showroom where living loops run quietly inside ordinary rooms.

Experimental

Micro-fountains & water routing

F2–F3 fountains on intermittent, solar-buffered schedules; the routing keeps evolving.

Experimental

S1-series aquariums

Tuned for calm and low upkeep, with sensor checks folded into a 60-second daily ritual.

Experimental

Paludarium & terrarium

A 175 L paludarium and a bearded-dragon terrarium, monitored across water, air and substrate.

Experimental

CSSGH greenhouse

Closet-size smart greenhouse running on a smart schedule.

Experimental

Energy loops

Tiny devices on power banks and stations: resilience you can actually live with.

Experimental

BioSensei monitoring

Zigbee probes feed a home bridge; every value keeps its source and freshness.

We show rooms and systems, never the address, network layout or device endpoints of the house.

04 · BioSensei — living-systems intelligence

The operating layer that grew out of the lab.

BioSensei turns observations into decisions a keeper can trust: what is measured, how fresh it is, which habitat needs attention first and why.

OBSERVE LOG INTERPRET PRIORITIZE ACT VERIFY evidence FRESH · SOURCED · EXPLAINED

AvailableBiotopes & Logger — 15 habitat types; test-kit entries by hand, CSV export.
AvailableEvidence freshness — every sensor value marked live, recent, stale, offline or suspect.
AvailableExplainable priorities & caretaker brief — why a habitat comes first, and a plain-language hand-over.
AvailableOptional AI (BYOK) — Dr BioSensei interpretation with your own key; labelled as interpretation.
ExperimentalEdge collectors & telemetry — Zigbee probes and home bridges, running on the BioSphere ecosystems.
ExperimentalSysOps — incident register, configuration lineage, knowledge base and fleet telemetry, born on the solar-fountain testbed.
ResearchSysInt — system-level integration across loops, equipment and evidence.
PlannedManufacturer connectivity — exploring how smart aquariums could feed BioSensei. Nothing connected or certified yet; no equipment control.
BioSensei app screen with sample data: an ecosystem card marked urgent because temperature monitoring went quiet, with the last known value, its age and what to check first
The real app, shown with sample data: when a probe goes quiet, BioSensei shows the last value, its age and what to check first — never a guess posing as a reading. Open biosensei.appbiosensei.org →

From research to industry

Where BioSphere research meets industrial use.

Four parts work together. BioSphere does the experimental research; BioSensei SysOps provides telemetry and operational intelligence; TasteTuner TT-o brings sensory modelling; BioSensei Industrial carries pilots and integrations to partners.

Experimental

BioSensei SysOps

Ecosystem telemetry, monitoring and operational intelligence.

Research

TasteTuner TT-o

Sensory modelling, first applied to cocoa origins; fish-feed use is a hypothesis to test.

Experimental

BioSphere

Experimental research, instrumentation and validation protocols.

Proposed

BioSensei Industrial

Pilots, integrations and licensing for partners.

Proposed research pilot — BioSensei Aqua × TT-o. Environmental conditions → feeding behaviour → feed acceptance → feed optimization → growth and welfare. One species, one feed-acceptance question. No validated fish-feed prediction or aquaculture results are claimed.

05 · HomeDesignStudio

From lab to living room.

HomeDesignStudio is BioSphere's design and implementation arm. It turns what works at Haverim into layouts, wiring, solar placement and maintenance routines — shipped as SOPs, parts lists and installations.

The eShop is experimental: check current availability on the studio site before ordering.

Living installations

Bathroom biotopes such as the Jungle Cavern signature design: hidden pump, biofiltration, moss with capillary irrigation.

Solar micro-ecosystems

Micro-fountains and entry-level greenhouse loops on solar-buffered power.

Maintenance ergonomics

Sensor and smart-schedule packs for ultra-low upkeep, designed around 60-second care rituals.

  • Home Biotope Plus Solar Kit — solar aquarium life, pump and panel
  • Garden Pond Companion Kit — seasonal-aware pond care
  • AquaPoNano Starter Kit — fish and greens in one small loop
  • CSSGH Companion Kit — the smart greenhouse, monitored

06 · BioSphere Academy

Learn to design and run a living system.

The Academy starts from a published syllabus that uses fountain automation to teach life-support thinking, then builds toward a project-based pathway with the rigour of leading engineering curricula.
